Frequently Asked Questions
| What is a myelogram? | |
|
A myelogram is a procedure in which a small amount of iodine contrast media is injected into the spinal canal. After the injection, a series of x-rays and a CT scan will be performed. This will allow a radiologist and your doctor to study the spinal disks and nerve roots for any abnormalities. In preparation for the procedure, you should not eat or drink 6 hours before your test. The myelogram procedures lasts twenty to forty minutes, followed by a recovery period of approximately two hours. Your visit will take approximately three to five hours total. You will need a driver to transport you home. Once home, lie down with your head elevated and drink plenty of fluids. If possible, relax for 48 hours before resuming your normal activities. You may resume your normal diet if you are not nauseated. If you have any questions regarding your recovery after the procedure, you should contact the facility that performed the test. |
